Project description

Tom is a PhD student at Newcastle University business school under supervision of Dr. Karen Elliot, Dr. Rebecca Casey and Dr. Marwa Elnahass. He obtained a Masters in Finance Management from Durham University, and also completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Newcastle – graduating with a First Class Hons in BA Modern Languages. He is Finance Director of Blueline Group – which transports over 10 million passengers annually and creates employment for over 1,100 in the North East. Tom also won the North East Rising Star of the Year Award in 2018 and has recently been nominated for the national Northern Finance Director of the Year Awards.

Research topic/thesis title: Moving Forward: The Future of Mobility and the Role of Disruptive Innovation in the UK Private Hire and Taxi Industry. 

Tom’s research aims to explore technological advances and innovation within the transport sector, in order to better understand the future of mobility in the United Kingdom - with a particular focus on the UK taxi and private hire market. The focus points of his research are ride-hailing and ride-sharing apps, family business management and future innovations, such as: electric vehicles, autonomous cars and the concept of MaaS (Mobility as a Service).
