There are a variety of ways that we can help you on your journey.
Career Hub
Our Career Hub is located on the ground floor of the Business School. Here you can find information on work placements, internship vacancies, and a range of free careers resources.
Drop-in service
We operate a drop-in careers service during term time. This is a convenient way to speak to a member of the team without an appointment. They can provide information and resources to support your career development.
Our drop-in service is open from 11:00am to 1:00pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Career Consultants
Our Career Consultants offer a range of support to help you fulfil your potential. They can provide guidance on a range of post-study options, including:
- graduate careers
- further study options
- starting your own business
You can access this service during your studies and for three years after you've graduated.
We offer one-to-one appointments both during and outside of term time. You can attend either in person or online. There are two main types of appointment:
Careers Conversation
This is a chance to have a general chat with a consultant. You can discuss anything from CVs to applications - it's up to you. A Careers Conversation appointment will last 20 minutes.
Guidance appointment
This is a 20 minute appointment which is focused on exploring potential career paths. You can also cover other topics such as CVs or applications.
LinkedIn Learning
As a Newcastle University Business School student, you get free access to thousands of online courses with LinkedIn Learning.
LinkedIn Learning offers you a personalised experience. It recommends courses to you based on your skills, interests, and career aspirations. You can share the courses you complete with potential employers.
You can discuss the courses you have completed in interviews and on applications. You can also add them to your LinkedIn profile.
Enhance your degree

Our dedicated Placement and Study Abroad Team support undergraduate students. They can help arrange:
- work placements
- study abroad
- shorter mobility options, such as summer schools and summer internships
Most undergraduate students can choose to undertake a year-long work placement within the UK. This would take place between Stages 2 and 3 of your degree.
Completing a work placement can benefit you in many ways. It can give you:
- real-life business experience
- practical evidence of achievement
- increased confidence
- commercial acumen and occupational awareness
- networking opportunities
- salaried work
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to work or study overseas.
Overseas work placements or studies offer numerous benefits. By experiencing different cultures, languages and ways of thinking, you can:
- develop a global perspective
- enhance your adaptability
- improve cross-cultural communication skills
- broaden your professional networks
- expand your career opportunities
- foster personal growth, independence and self-confidence
International summer school programmes allow you to expand your academic and cultural horizons.
Opportunities for summer schools vary from year to year. Overseas universities provide a diverse range of courses across various disciplines. You may be able to do either a physical or virtual placement.
Programmes take place during summer break and last between two and four weeks. They combine academic work with extracurricular activities. You can explore new destinations, learn about different cultures and make lifelong memories.
You'll engage with professors and students from around the world. You will:
- gain valuable international experience
- develop a global network
- immerse yourself in a new cultural environment
Stage 2 students can take part in global internships. These can be within the UK or in various locations abroad.
Competition for places each year is high, so you'll need to be well-prepared. The Careers Service can help you get ready. They can review your application and provide interview practice.
A variety of internship programmes are available. You should read all the information provided carefully before applying.

Wellbeing and support
We offer in-house student wellbeing support. This service enables you to book direct appointments with a trained counsellor or mental health adviser.
You can book regular appointments, or attend a virtual drop-in session.
We designed these for situations where you may want to speak to someone about an issue that may impact your health and wellbeing.
This allows you to meet staff from support services across the University and find out how they can support your studies.
Student welfare and safety is our priority. The NUBS Health & Safety Policy (PDF: 171.6 KB) is an important document that students should make sure they are familiar with.
Help and guidance
You can also access central support via the University’s Student Health and Wellbeing service, which you can find in King’s Gate.
We also provide you with access to help and guidance on how to study most effectively during your time here. This includes help in areas such as mathematics, academic writing, and language.
Student voice
Your feedback is very important to us and we respond whenever we can. An example of this includes the commissioning of digital skills sessions. This enables our students to learn about areas including Google Analytics and WordPress.
Academic Representatives are here to represent your academic interests. They work with the University staff to create positive change for our students.
Student Voice Committees are a key part of how we engage with all students through their programme representatives.
This ensures that every student feels represented in institutional decision-making processes. Every student can contribute to the enhancement of their programme and learning experience.
