Biography

Stewart Johnstone is Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations at Newcastle University Business School.  His research and teaching activities traverse human resource management and employment relations.

    I am currently co-editing two Special Issues related to the above projects:  (1) International Journal of Human Resource Management on the Regulation of Work and Employment  and (2) a Special Issue of Economic and Industrial Democracy on the Global Economic Crisis, Work and Employment.

    I have designed, managed and delivered various modules related to work and employment issues at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Executive levels at Loughborough University, Newcastle University and PSB Academy Singapore.

    I have also completed training on the use of the case method in management teaching (Harvard Business School & EDHEC 2017).

    Student supervision

    Undergraduate & postgraduate dissertation supervision.

    Doctoral supervision

    I am currently co-supervising a PhD student investigating the evolution of union-management partnership in a safety-critical engineering organisation, and a PhD student exploring employee voice and engagement in the co-operative sector.  

    I am always interesting in hearing from prospective students with similar research interests.  Prospective PhD students interested in potential doctoral supervision are strongly encouraged to make contact informally to discuss their proposal and funding opportunities before making a formal application. Please note I am normally only interested in supervising research topics which align with my own interests and expertise.
