Professor of Experimental Architecture, Rachel Armstrong, will be presenting to the Northern Futures Summit on 6th November on the subject of smart green cities.
Northern Futures is an initiative from the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to answer 'How do we build on the strengths in the North to create an economic core in the heart of the region that can compete with the biggest cities in the world?'
Professor Armstrong will be describing a future scenario where 'nature and technology work together - to do more with less - and create rich new infrastructures to help us thrive.' Specifically thinking about Newcastle, she envisions a 'focused ‘experimental’ community - where ordinary people work alongside university researchers, business communities, schools and local councils - and rapidly test out products and ways of making our city an attractive place to live - as well as being appealing to investors.'
